How to Renew Your CompTIA Certification

An active CompTIA certification is an important tool to showcase your expert knowledge. We’re here to help you keep your certification current.

You have the following options to renew your certification:

  • Pass most current version of the exam for the CompTIA certification you are renewing. Example: If you are renewing a CompTIA A+ 801/802 certification, taking and passing the CompTIA A+ 901/902 exams will renew your certification. (See note below.)
  • Earn a qualifying higher-level CompTIA certification or other industry certification.
  • Complete Continuing Education (CE) activities and earn a sufficient number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). All CEUs must be earned within your three-year CE Renewal cycle.
  • For those with a qualifying CompTIA A+ce certification you may renew it by passing the CompTIA A+ Recertification exam, RC0-903 (Not available for 900 series exam takers).
  • For those with a qualifying CompTIA Network+ce certification you may renew it by passing the CompTIA Network+ Recertification exam, RC0-N06 (Not available for N10-006 exam takers).
  • For those with a qualifying CASPce certification, you may renew it by passing the CASP Recertification Exam, RC0-C02 (Not available for CAS-002 exam takers).

Note: If a Candidate has passed an exam (or multiple exams) and achieved a certification, he/she cannot take the exam again, using the same exam code, without prior consent from CompTIA.

Renew with CE activities in 4 easy steps

  1. Make sure your certification is active
Log in to your certification account and click the “Certifications” tab to review the status of your certification(s). You’ll find one of the following:
    • Your certification was issued on or after January 1, 2011, and is active.
    • Your certification was issued on or after January 1, 2011, and has expired. You’ll need to pass the current version of the exam to regain certification.
    • Your certification was issued before January 1, 2011, which means your certification is good-for-life (GFL). Learn more about GFL certifications.
    • You have multiple active certifications. Learn more about renewing multiple certifications.
  2. Agree to the CE Program Code of Ethics
You will be prompted to agree to the CE Program Code of Ethics policy in your certification account on an annual basis. This must be done before you’ll be able to make payments or submit CEUs.
  3. Make your CE renewal payment
Your certification renewal requirements include annual CE fees. Learn more about the payment process for employees of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
  4. Complete CE activities and submit for CEUs
You’ll need to complete CE activities within your three-year CE Renewal cycle, which will earn you CEUs. Learn more about the types of CE activities, the number of CEUs you can earn and what’s required in order to submit the CEUs to your certification account.

Renew with a higher level CompTIA certification

Earning a higher level CompTIA certification will automatically renew your existing, lower level CompTIA certification(s). If you have multiple CompTIA certifications, you may maintain all of your CompTIA certifications by renewing only your highest level CompTIA certification.

Renew with other IT industry certifications

Other IT industry certifications you earn may qualify for CEUs toward your renewal.

Select the certification you intend to renew below to see which other CompTIA certifications and other IT industry certifications will count towards your renewal.
