What is the difference between the CompTIA HTI+ & CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ certifications?
The main difference between CompTIA HTI+ and CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ is the target certification candidate. CompTIA HTI+ was designed to be an entry-level certification, providing validation for knowledge of all aspects of home network integration, including structured wiring installation and integration of all home sub-systems. CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ has been designed to validate the knowledge required to configure, integrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and comprehend the basic design concepts of electronic and digital home systems. Structured wiring and basic hand and tool skills are not covered in CEA-CompTIA DHTI+. Download additional information about the difference.

Why the name change?
While conducting industry research in preparation for a regularly scheduled update for CompTIA HTI+, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) got involved to serve a shared need among the members of each association. That need is rooted in the capabilities of digital systems within the home. With the infusion of IT into consumer electronic products, digital systems have become more popular and more powerful than ever before. The unique contribution of DHTI+ is using the IP network as the backbone for digital systems integration. CompTIA and CEA want to emphasize that contribution by including “Digital” in the certification name.

As a result, CompTIA HTI+ will become CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ (Digital Home Technology Integrator).
