CompTIA A+ Retirement FAQs
I have my CompTIA A+ certification, how does this
retirement affect me?
Your CompTIA A+ certification will remain valid, however,
it is no longer the most current version. If you or
your employer would prefer to maintain the currency
of your CompTIA A+ certification, you do one of the
following options:
- Complete exam 220-602 to re-certify as a CompTIA A+ IT Technician
- Complete exam 220-603 to re-certify as a CompTIA A+ Remote
Support Technician
- Complete exam 220-604 to re-certify as a CompTIA A+ Depot Technician
I have taken my CompTIA A+ Hardware exam, but not the Software exam
(or vice versa), can I still get certified under
the 2003 objectives?
You should have received e-mail communications from
CompTIA informing you to complete the second exam
by June 30, 2007. If you do not complete your certification
by June 30, 2007, you will have to complete exam
220-601 (Essentials) and one of the following exams:
220-602 (IT Technician), 220-603 (Remote Support
Technician) or 220-604 (Depot Technician), in order
to earn the CompTIA A+ certification.
CompTIA's retake policy prohibits me from completing
my second exam prior to June 30, 2007. Can I still
get certified under the 2003 objectives?
CompTIA announced in early 2006 that the CompTIA
A+ 220-300 series exams would be retiring on December
31, 2006. CompTIA extended the retirement date to
June 30, 2007 to allow those candidates that were
already in the process of training the chance to
earn their certification. Candidates were informed
of the impending retirement of these exams well
in advance, and due to this fact, there will be
NO RETAKE POLICY EXCEPTIONS made for the retirement
of CompTIA A+ 220-301 and 220-302. Candidates who
choose to violate the retake policy will be decertified
and suspended from taking CompTIA exams for one
year. The retirement of these exams will not be
accepted as a valid reason for violating policy.
What if I have just started preparing for my CompTIA
A+ certification?
Be sure your curriculum is designed to meet the
2006 CompTIA A+ objectives.
